September 22 at 6:30 am, sunrise on the west coast US, the Sun enters the sign of Libra. Let’s not rush to Libra season though. Use this last week of Virgo love to tie up those loose ends, work diligently on your service, do thorough research and get your new routines settled in. September 28 at 6 pm, Venus finally completes its trine to Mars that was never completed back in April. I am highlighting this transit because of the rare symbolism of an aspect getting so close to completion, within 1 degree, but not ever actually completing it because one of the planets, in this case Venus, turns retrograde. In April, Venus and Mars danced all month long in tight trine, from Gemini to Aquarius, only for Venus to slow down, stop & reverse, never perfecting the aspect. To traditional astrologers this could symbolize the delaying of one’s dreams or dashing of one’s hopes. Something we hoped for or really thought was going to happen or work out for us, something important, does not. This was around the time that many events were being cancelled. We were told “two weeks to flatten the curve” and for everything to be shut down and cancelled in early March. We really thought and hoped that by April and May, everything would be back on and our April and May events and travel plans would not need to be cancelled. Then by mid-April it became clear that everything was cancelled. Personally, something I had been looking forward to for almost an entire year got cancelled. I had won a scholarship to participate in OPA’s (Organization for Professional Astrologers) annual retreat in Zion, Utah. It was not only an opportunity to go to my first international astrology retreat or conference, it was my once a year opportunity to take a trip by myself and immerse myself in nature. I was quite depressed at its cancellation. I know I am not the only one that had similar stories, BUT the good news is, that I think Venus finally catching up to complete a trine with Mars, this time from fiery Leo to Aries, signals the return of some of our hopes and revitalization of some of our dreams and inspiration. We may not get to do exactly what we had hoped to do in April or May, but something related to what we lost or was delayed then, is coming around. If even just our spirits finally healing from the blow in some way. This symbolism is reinforced by the symbolism of Jupiter, the Great Benefic, reversing its annual retrograde motion to turn direct on September 12. Jupiter will spend the next few weeks picking up speed and with it, getting our hopes, dreams and wishes moving again. Jupiter is the planet most associated with Faith, religious traditions, philosophy, world travel, culture, The People, and the law. Jupiter still happens to be in a sign considered “unlucky” for it’s particular symbolism, so I don’t expect everything to fully open up and expand again with it’s forward motion, but perhaps our spirits and reasons to hope will rise somehow. I know I am very much looking forward to watching Jupiter in the night sky as it slowly moves to finally catch up with Saturn over the course of the next few months until their Great Conjunction in December. Great Conjunctions of Jupiter and Saturn only occur once every 40 years. Jupiter and Saturn are both brightly visible high in the night sky, and have been all year. Jupiter is the much brighter of the two and currently just to the west of Saturn; Jupiter will be seen to get closer and closer now that it is moving direct again. If you happen to be in dark sky country, you can see our Milky Way Galaxy, and the Galactic Center, just to the west of Jupiter through November. By the end of November, the Milky Way, Jupiter and Saturn will all set shortly after sunset.
